What Makes Dust Mites So Harmful?
The most common house dust mite (Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus) produces allergens called Der p 1 and Der p 2, both of which contribute to flare-ups, irritation, redness, and more.
Upon exposure, Der p 1 acts as a pair of microscopic, molecular scissors that cut structures important to skin barrier health.
Meanwhile, Der p 2 makes your immune system hyper-responsive to certain signals and exaggerates inflammation.
